To maintain or increase revenues, the lottery industry introduces new games and increases advertising. The promotional efforts are aimed at particular groups, such as convenience store operators and their vendors; lottery suppliers; teachers (in those states where the revenue is earmarked for education); state legislators, who quickly become accustomed to the extra funding; and members of the general public who are drawn in by large prize amounts and the promise that their luck might change their lives.<\/p>\n
But the odds of winning a lottery are very slim\u2014there\u2019s a better chance that you\u2019ll be struck by lightning than that you\u2019ll hit the jackpot.
